Can't use both VST2 and VST3 Version of NI Kontakt 6

martyn productions

Most VST plugins today are available in both VST2 and VST3 versions, and in Digital Audio Workstations like Cubase, Reaper, Cakewalk, Studio One, and other DAWs that support VST3 and VST2 plugin formats. Usually you can use both VST2 and VST3 versions of the same plugin in one project. Native Instruments Kontakt 6 however is different, NI purposely made it impossible to use both VST versions, you either have to use VST2 or VST3 version. If you have both plugin version installed and both Kontakt VST version are in their plugin folders, only VST3 version be available in your DAW. This is very inconvenient and provides no backwards compatibility. If you have a Cubase or any other DAW project containing Kontakt VST2 in it, and you later decide to open that project with Kontakt VST3 version, all of the Kontakt Instances will be empty without any loaded instruments. For now most musicians, composers and producers use VST2 version of Kontakt for better compatibility and less issues, by removing the Kontakt.vst3 plugin out of the VST3 plugin folder.
